Scoring Method
There is only one method of scoring that are used in IPSC competition.
Type Comstock
- Unlimited time, stops on the last shot fired.
- Unlimited number of shots to be fired.
- Stipulated number of hits per target to count for score.
A competitor’s score for a stage is calculated by adding all of the highest values that are scored from the stipulated number of hits per target. Any penalties that are incurred are subtracted from the point total. The point total is then divided by the total time to arrive at a hit factor. The competitor with the highest hit factor is awarded the maximum points available for the course of fire. All other competitor’s hit factors are used to rank them on the stage.
Example of how to calculate hit factor for a 100 point stage:
The winner of the stage would be competitor III with the hit factor of 5.83.
